In the winter of 2024, I spent several days walking the streets of Reno, capturing portraits of the people I encountered. These streets, often overlooked, hold a raw and honest beauty shaped by the grit and resilience of those who live there. Winter’s cold brought out a stark contrast—both in the physical struggles people endure and the quiet strength they exhibit.

Engaging with these individuals was a humbling experience. Many declined to have their photo taken, and some reacted with visible frustration or anger when I asked. I came to understand that for some, the simple act of being seen or photographed could feel invasive, like a breach of privacy or dignity in an already vulnerable existence.

For those who did allow me to take their portraits, I am deeply grateful. Their willingness to let me capture a moment of their lives—despite the challenges they face—added a profound authenticity and humanity to this project. Through their images, I hope to convey not just their struggles but also their resilience and individuality.

This series is not just a collection of photographs but a reflection on the complex beauty of life on the margins, especially in the unforgiving winter months. Each portrait tells a story of survival, strength, and the layered humanity of Reno's streets.
