In Search of Light is a series of self-portraits set within liminal spaces, inspired by my personal journey of transition. This work reflects my passage from a life defined by my past as a professional soldier to one shaped by my aspirations as a professional artist. Through this series, I aim to bridge the memories of what has been with the dreams of what is yet to come.

To evoke the ethereal quality of liminal spaces, I employed long exposure photography, incorporating spinning lights, blazing fires, and wandering stars. These techniques create a sense of movement and transformation, capturing light trails as they traverse through time and space. Each exposure, lasting up to thirty seconds, preserves fleeting slices of time, while layered exposures amplify the dynamic energy of traveling lights.

Circles are a recurring motif in this series, symbolizing connection, gratitude, and infinity. For me, they represent the guiding light that illuminates the darkness, as well as a spiritual bond to the divine and the eternal.

This project is not only the culmination of my AA degree but also a stepping stone toward my future. It will form a key part of my application to the BFA program at UNR. Ten pieces from the series will be exhibited at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center in Reno, NV, from December 16th to January 24th.
